Day 2 - Somebody Cares, Malawi

26 November 2012 — Mandy Marshall — Blog

Somebody Cares - Malawi

A Christian non-governmental organisation that has been serving peri-urban and rural communities in Malawi since 2000.  They focus on empowering and building the capacity of communities and local churches to care for widows and orphans through community healthcare, early childhood and youth development, spiritual development through pastoral and leadership training, community-based mitigation of the impact of HIV and AIDS and humanitarian response. More recently Theresa and her staff have been challenging government and communities directly over the issues of sexual violence.

Prayer Points:

Please pray for

● good relationships with the Women Judges Association of Malawi and the police who they have been engaging with over the past few months.

●Theresa and her staff member who are overwhelmed by the needs in the local communities. The two of them are responsible for workshops and community trainings on sexual violence.

● Give thanks for the many requests they have had from communities and church leaders who are asked for training and resources to help them address sexual violence. Pray that God may equip them for the work which he has called them too.

● Pray the development of a church resource on sexual violence that is currently underway. May the resource be empowering and equipping to many communities and local churches who have identified the need to address sexual violence in their communities.
