Natalie’s story
Added 21 May 10

Hello my name is Natalie and this is my story. I was brought up in a loving Christian family but was abused by a neighbour from 8 years old until I was 14. Due the pain of this abuse by the age of 17 I was very depressed and was struggling with a lot of feelings of worthlessness and self hatred and I was dealing with it through self harming and controlling my eating.

My journey to health and redemption
Added 16 Apr 10

Sexual violence is subtle and quiet, like a thief in the night. It breaks in, stealing dignity, self-worth, trust, healthy perspective, healthy self-image, beauty, the ability to thrive, and the ability to make choices. The destruction that this thief leaves behind is self-hatred, mistrust, confusion, phobia, panic, fear, degradation, ugliness, disgust, darkness, guilt, shame, paranoia, a hatred of sex, and a fear of men.

Margaret’s story
Added 16 Apr 10

My name is Margaret and this is my story. Like any young woman, I met a man and fell in love. Our relationship was never easy, but I loved him and 3 years later we were married. The first year of our marriage was the best year of our relationship. We were happy and things were going really well, so we decided to start a family. It was while I was pregnant with our first child, that I noticed a change in John. He started having angry outbursts and shouted a lot. If we were in the car and I annoyed him, he would put his foot down and drive really fast, which terrified me. If I asked him to slow down, he would just drive faster. I learned to stop saying how I felt about things and about his behaviour.
